Guest speaker Andrea Milne is a twentieth century U.S. historian whose work sits at the intersection of gender, sexuality, and medicine. Her primary focus is the history of HIV/AIDS; Milne’s dissertation looks at the nurses who formed the first AIDS ward in the United States. She’s also written on activism performed by women interned at the Carville National Leprosarium in the 1940s 50s, and 60s. A Senior Pedagogical Fellow at UC Irvine’s Center for Engaged Instruction, Milne is passionate about teaching, and mentors aspiring academics and instructors at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. When she is not doing academic work, Milne works as the Research Assistant for Nate DiMeo’s Peabody Award-nominated history podcast, The Memory Palace. She also writes for several history blogs, and maintains a personal blog on her website, www.andreamilne.com.
